What is recruitment?

Recruitment is a time when you acquaint yourself with all the sororities on campus to make sure you find the right fit. We encourage you to keep an open mind to all your opportunities. Although we take great pride in our organization's values, we recognize that it may not be a perfect fit for you. However, we hope you come ready to explore what we have to offer.

Does KPL participate in Panhellenic recruitment?

The Panhellenic Association at Northwestern has its own recruitment process which Kappa Phi Lambda does not partake in. Our recruitment is usually one or two weeks of social activities designed to be engaging and fun. To rush for KPL, look out for our recruitment flyers.

What does Kappa recruitment involve?

Kappa Phi Lambda's recruitment provides an opportunity for all those interested to come out and meet our members and learn about our values. Our recruitment is designed especially for YOU to have a good time, where you can feel comfortable asking questions and interacting with our sisters. In the past, events have included: Vietnamese spring rolls, fondue night, KAPPAcino, and game night. All recruitment events are always absolutly FREE!

Are there any binding obligations during recruitment?

There are no commitments or promises made during recruitment, so don't worry about feeling obligated in any way. During this time, we hold a variety of events where we try to give you a bigger picture of who we are, what we do, and what each sister is like. It's also a time where we have the chance to try to get to know YOU better. Come out, be yourself, and have some fun!

What makes Kappa Phi Lambda unique?

A sorority is defined as: A chiefly social organization of women students at a college or university, usually designated by Greek letters. Well, Kappa Phi Lambda is so much more. What makes us different from a club is that we are founded on the idea of Sisterhood. A sister is always there to lend an ear, give a helping hand, and share your happiness with.

What can Kappa offer me?

As one of the fastest growing organizations of its kind, you can truly be a part of the organization's growth and not just be another face. With each chapter being small and intimate, there are leadership opportunities for everyone. There are also unlimited ways to meet new people, network, and prepare for your future. You can build strong, invaluable leadership qualities. With Kappa, there is never a dull moment. With year-long commitments to community service, philanthropy, cultural events and social activities, your college career is destined to be well-rounded.

Do I have to be Asian to join?

You do NOT have to be Asian. We are Asian-interest, NOT Asian-exclusive. Many different nationalities are represented within Kappa Phi Lambda nationally and within our chapter. As a cultural sorority we encourage and embrace diversity. We welcome all strong, exceptional women to learn about KPL.

Does recruitment include an interview?

Yes. At the end of recruitment, all interested women will be invited to interview with sisters. Interviews are business casual and are the only serious part of recruitment.

What is a bid? How do I get one?

A bid is an invitation to you to begin a process to join our sorority. After recruitment ends, bids are given out to individuals deemed to be a good fit for our organization. In order to be eligible for a bid, one must go through the interview, fill out the application, and attend a minimum number of recruitment events to be considered (usually one General Interest Meeting and one or two other events). If you receive a bid, you have 24 hours to consider it and respond with whether or not you would like to take the next steps!

What is the intake process?

Intake is the process you go through to become a full-fledged member of our organization. Kappa Phi Lambda stands firmly in our belief of a positive intake experience. We would never do anything that puts you in harm's way. Academic excellence is an important part of our values, so we emphasize your college education first and foremost.

How do I know if a sorority is right for me?

There is no one RIGHT reason to join a sorority, but there are a lot of benefits. However, there are a lot of WRONG reasons to join. Some of them being: "I want to meet people!" "I think fraternity guys are hot!" "I want to party!" "I miss my friends from back home!" "The sisters seemed SOOO nice!" Now that last one is tricky. During recruitment, every organization is going to put on its best face to encourage people to join. The best bet is: if you find that the values of the organization coincide with your own, and that they organize events that you would like to be a part of, then it's probably a good fit for you!
